Insights from Thomas Matthew Miles-Nell of Regal Escapes

Earlier this season, Regal Escapes had the privilege of hosting an unforgettable evening at De Zalze alongside Silversea Expeditions and Estate Living. The gathering was alive with anticipation as we shared stories of a destination that feels less like a point on the map and more like an awakening. Antarctica.

This is not a land you simply pass through. It is an experience that leaves an indelible mark on those who venture there. Antarctica feels like nature’s own art gallery: icebergs rising like cathedrals, fjords carved with impossible precision, and glaciers collapsing into the sea with a thunder that resonates deep inside you. No description, however vivid, can truly capture it. Antarctica must be lived. It must be felt in its silence, its scale, its purity.

And the only way to access its full grandeur is by sea.

Silversea Expeditions has long been the leader in uniting genuine exploration with uncompromising comfort. Their small, ice-class ships, Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud, and Silver Wind, navigate waters few others can reach. From these intimate vessels, guests embark on Zodiac journeys to stand at the edge of glaciers, paddle kayaks beside shimmering ice walls, and step ashore to walk among penguin colonies where life has thrived untouched for centuries. Each day’s adventure is guided not by a fixed agenda but by the rhythms of nature herself.

At Regal Escapes, we believe this is the essence of luxury. Not extravagance, but presence. To gaze upon a horizon where the world feels infinite, to immerse yourself in a landscape that strips away distraction and reminds you of your place within something greater.

Our De Zalze evening reflected this philosophy. Laughter, inspiration, and the spark of discovery filled the room as guests envisioned themselves wrapped in expedition parkas, watching whales rise from icy waters or seals drift lazily across floes. Silversea’s itineraries bring these visions to life, whether sailing across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula, extending the journey to South Georgia’s immense king penguin colonies, or flying directly into the White Continent through the Antarctica Bridge programme.

What makes Antarctica so compelling is its paradox. It is the harshest continent on Earth, the coldest, driest, and most windswept, and yet it awakens something deeply human in all who visit. It inspires awe, fosters stillness, and creates connection.

For us at Regal Escapes, partnering with Silversea Expeditions allows us to open this extraordinary frontier to our clients in a way that is seamless, safe, and transformative. These are not journeys to tick off a list, but life chapters that become part of who you are.

Antarctica is waiting, timeless and untouched. The only question is whether you will answer its call.
